On February 25th 2017, the Hangzhou Normal University organized the Hangzhou Internationalization Summit and the inaugural meeting of the Institute for Hangzhou Internationalization. The audience was composed of representatives of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University, the Center for Innovation Research of National Culture of Fudan University, the China Academy for Rural Development of Zhejiang University, the Center for Research on Areas and Urban Development of Zhejiang University, the Regional Planning Research Center of Nanjing University, the Center for Urban Issues of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Bei-jing, the Research Center for Cities and Population development of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the Research Center on City development of Zhejiang University of Technology, the Center of Research for planning development and system reform of the city of Hangzhou, the Hangzhou Academy of Social Sciences, the Research Institute for Urban Studies in Hangzhou Normal University, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the Institute of Political Studies of Aix-en-Provence.
The meeting focused on some important issues such as the inauguration of a think tank, strategies of city internationalization and mechanisms to promote Hangzhou improvement and innovation. As a think tank, the Institute for Hangzhou Internationalization will focus on the introduction of China’s urban concepts into the international academic research and on the application of these concepts in policy-making. Morever, the think tank will contribute to the sharing of resources and collaboration between institutes, the coordination of collaborative studies about international cities, the production of international communication strategies and cooperation between cities so as to foster China’s sustainable urbanization.
Zhang Weiliang, Valentina Anzoise and Judith Audin, members of the MEDIUM Project, attended the conference. Zhang Weiliang gave a presentation on “Building the World-Class public space (leisure corridor) in the Grand Canall”. Valentina Anzoise gave a presentation on “EU-China cooperation: the role of universities in fostering international exchange and research”.
